Travel Style

The best trips start with the person, not the destination.

Before I suggest a single hotel, I want to know:

  • Who you’re traveling with

  • How you like to spend your days

  • What you want more of, and what you definitely don’t want

  • Where you’re happy to splurge, and where you’d rather keep it local and unfussy

The answers shape everything else. A packed museum day and an afternoon with nowhere to be can happen in the same week.

Long hike and the best cold shower you’ve ever had.

I love a hard day on the trail and somewhere wonderful to come back to.

The adventure is part of the point. So are the good bed and the dinner at the end of it.

My favorite part of any trip is the part with no signal. For me that’s a long hike. For you it might be a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, a slow coastal town, or a cabin with a woodstove. I’ll help you find your version.

And if something does go sideways, you can still text me.

Authenticity and texture.

I want to experience a place, not just see it. That usually means something specific:

  • An Afrobeats night in a tea house during Mexico City’s art week

  • A late show at the Edinburgh Fringe

  • The neighborhood gallery instead of another major museum

  • The restaurant locals actually go to

  • A guide who grew up there

I steer trips toward independent hotels, family businesses, neighborhood restaurants and makers. I like knowing where the money goes, and those places are usually the ones you end up talking about at home.

Splurge where it counts. Leave the rest open.

Luxury doesn’t have to mean formal or expensive at every turn.

The right splurge, whether it’s the hotel, one incredible meal, or a real room after several nights in a bunk, can change the whole trip. Everything else stays loose: enough structure that it all feels easy, and room to follow your curiosity. Take the detour. Stay for one more glass.

Fewer places, longer stays.
